Clementine...for gnome and windows 06/30/2010

Im a big fan of gnome but occasionally i have to dual boot with windows. In gnome i use banshee as my main media player, i've even come to compare it to Amarok (in KDE), although im not a KDE fan, but i'd say Amarok rocks, Then again for those KDE users looking to migrate to gnome or windows users looking for a good media player, i would recommend you try out Clementine.

Clementine is a modern music player and library organizer. It's basically a port of Amarok, with the following features:

  • Search and play
  • load a wide variety of playlist files (m3u, xspf)
  • edit tags on mp3 and ogg files
  • and much more.

So i was on youtube today and came across a video about this, the first time i heard about it was on a comic (not surprising, right??). It wasn't just ANY comic, it was the infamous xkcd (if you are wondering what that is...click here . But if you know what i'm talking about then you'd have already known that they were making fun of it. So seeing this video made me laugh just at the title itself. But seriously, it is some awesome technology.

Firefox 4: fast, powerful, and empowering 05/12/2010
2 Comments

Almost one year ago we got a glimpse of the next major iteration of firefox, or at least its gorgeous new visuals.More recently, Mozilla’s Mike Beltzner shared a presentation that reveals quite detailed plans for Firefox 4. HTML5 and CSS support are among the new features, as well as faster operation, a greater focus on security and stability, new developer tools and a lot of personalization options. From the screenshots embedded in the presentation, we can see that the visuals from one year ago haven’t changed much, although most menu items (like the home button, for example) are positioned differently.

The plans, embedded below, sound fantastic, but Mozilla warns once again that they could change before Firefox 4 is finalized.

Presentations here:

Below a sneak preview of it.

If you are looking for a Linux toy that really rocks, your search ends here. This is a stringless digital guitar and it's powered by Linux

This is what is called a "digital guitar" by it's designer. So it's not a electrical guitar but a device for creating digital music.
The Misa guitar runs Gentoo Linux on an AMD Geode processor and it has MIDI and Ethernet ports for connectivity.

Tonight while bored looking over some sites, i came across this link about the release on openoffice.org 3.2. I am a linux user, and frankly most times the office suites aren't exactly top notch stuff. So mostly i use Microsoft 2007 office suite with wine.(I haven't completely abandoned openoffice.org, i still have it installed). So i decided to install the new version, the support documentation said that i don't have to uninstall the previous version but i had to due to some problems with the installation. Once i finished the install and ran it, it was awesome, i opened a .docx file and it was displayed PERFECTLY. The guys at openoffice.org have done a wonderful job. Goodbye office 2007, hello openoffice.org :)

Here's the installation link: http://download.openoffice.org/other.html#en-US

Please let me know what you think of the release

But since i came across PortableApps.com; i don't need to do that, all i have to do is install the apps i need on a pendrive and i'll always have them on the go, here's more
